Today is anti-bullying day or something along those lines and everyone is supposed to wear purple. That being said, here's a discussion I jumped in on earlier through Facebook:
Blank: does not own purple apparel, so I will instead, teach my 6 yr old Godchild how to kick a bully in the nuts & punch him in the throat, but only if quite necessay to do so.
Blank1: that will make purple!
Mike Marshall: Pass on teaching the throat punch unless it is a life or death scenario. Unlike the movies, a real throat punch can break or dislodge the adam's apple (On a boy or man) resulting in a choking or asphixiation (Forgive the spelling please) death. Seriously. It is easy to kill with a throat punch! Kidney or Liver punches are more dramatic as the person usually falls down in pain making the necessary point
Blank2: thank you Mike. Leave it to Guy to advocate child murder! Although not sure a 6 yr old would have that powerful a punch...good to know for the rest of us ;b
Blank3: Same here,.... my son is getting the instructions:)
Blank1: why the overboard and over reaction shit here? Blank said nothing about murder! defense YES!
Mike Marshall: Didn't mean to stir the pot. Just saying that for about 10 years I taught the throat punch as a viable Jiu-Jitsu technique until a fellow instructor (A military medic) pointed out at length just how dangerous this specific attack and/or de...fense really is. AND the legalities and reprecusions involved afterwards... Mind numbing As for kids, they DO more damage to themselves and others because of their lack of self awareness (Bodies etc). For fun, push into the front of your throat with your fingers or fist. No too bad when controlled right? Now lightly strike your own throat. Now a little harder... Yeah. Now imagine a kid or and adult doing it to you for real. Scary! Perspective is everything.
Blank: This is great, and what I wanted; dialogue. I am actually much more interested in coming up with ways to make kids feel some empowerment, as opposed to violence, but recent news brings back shitty memories as a kid.
I would like to see a program in schools where kids help other kids, since bullies gravitate towards loners, and the weak. Imagine a support "team" run by student football players, athletes, etc. where you go to them, as opposed to teachers, since that formula simply does not work. Bullies would simply lose interest, since the weakling now is part of a group.
Imagine that?
Blank: thanks Mike. I just punched myself in the balls and the throat, and it hurts like a mofo.
